You are God's Creation, His Poem

You are God's Creation, His Love Story, His Poem

Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

We Broke Our Connection to God

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

Jesus Wants to Set You Free, for 'Free'

Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We Love God Because He First Loved Us

Romans 6:1-4 "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life."

You'll Still Mess Up

Romans 7:24 “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”

Your Sins Can Be Washed Away

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

You Can Be Adopted by God Right Now

Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

No One is to Be Called 'Teacher,' but What Does That Mean?

“But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Matthew 23:7–12, ESV
Fellow Bible teachers, humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord. There are no great teachers, except God alone. There is a great God, and fallible people called by Him to help our fellow believers learn how to feed themselves from God‘s Word. We are all just humble sinners, saved by Grace, and expressing our gratitude by serving our Master. God calls every teacher in the Body of Christ to serve the needs of His people. We‘re just teachers among many other teachers, all called by God. He alone is our Teacher and Instructor.

Saved from What?

A while back, I said something that could accidentally offend another in the discussion. I quickly clarified, and another friend said: "good save." Stores tell us to come on in and "SAVE!" Someone who is drowning might be saved by a lifeguard. The word 'save' has many meanings. The way we tell the difference between the uses of 'save' is by paying attention to the context.

The same holds true in The Bible. Foundational passages make it clear that we are saved entirely by God's Grace, and that no effort, improvement, or work on our part is needed. It is a free gift. But there are also passages that seem to tell us we must do various things in order to be saved. How confusing is that?

It turns out that Greek and Hebrew (the original languages the Bible was written in, among others) are like English, in that 'save' is used for a variety of purposes. So, you have to ask yourself what the context in The Bible is telling you. If you read caref…
